by stuckinarut2 inwitnesses are so anxious, stressed, highly strung..... so much for ones who are supposed to be "the happiest people"..... thoughts?.

They are constantly being told to do more, do more! They're compared to fictitious others who have the worse possible health, family or financial situations yet manage to pioneer. Example, if the sister in the iron lung can pioneer, why can't you? If there actually is someone in congregation or circuit who really has had very bad things happen to them they will be repeatedly interviewed to guilt others into doing more. The carrot of "the end is coming, soon, very soon" is constantly dangled in front of them. If you want to see your dead loved ones again you must serve the organization! No wonder they're anxious and depressed! -

Hard to Remember but Back in the Ninteen Fifies...

I remember as a young child hearing the announcement that a person was disfellowshipped for fornication. I didn't even know what fornication was at the time. I remember the skits on the stage in which sisters were allowed to act out an opportunity to 'incidental' witness, which was later changed to 'informal' witnessing, because it "shouldn't be an afterthought, which incidental implies....the end is so close....must actively engage people in lifesaving discussions". The piano playing was always...entertaining....when the regular piano player wasn't there.

Under WT rules, can JW women file for a divorce? Or can only men file?
by JimmyPage inthe reason i ask is because while watching the "dateline" episode about ralph candelario, the claim was made that only jw men could file for divorce, not women.
.
i had never thought about this before.. also, how does this apply in cases where a husband is "apostate" while the wife is faithful to wt?

My relative was df'ed for one 'indiscretion'. His wife 'forgave' him which in JW-land means she no longer had scriptural grounds for divorce. A few weeks later, she told him she was divorcing him anyway. Three months after my relative was df'ed, he hung himself. Well, now his wife was free! Six weeks after he hung himself his 'grieving' widow announced on Facebook she was in a relationship and named the JW man. Three months after her husband hung himself she married the JW man she had been dating while still married to my relative. This woman and this man, who was dating a married woman, are in good standing in the congregation neither are being shunned. Sometimes, depending on who you know in JW org, example : if your daddy is an elder you can do as you please. -

I've not been to kh for a year and have had two phone calls in less than a week. Two elders want to talk to me about my last conversation with one of them a month ago. I have sooo moved on. The message he left said I should call him. Yeah, that's not going to happen! -

The Elders of the congregations make for the worst possible "shepards".
by Dunedain inthe main goal of a shepard, is to keep the flock as safe as possible.
the loss of just a single sheep, could be devastating to a flock, and a shepards financial well being.
every sheep is valuable, from a monetary stanpoint, and future strength of the flock.

70 year old Helen's health went downhill very fast. About two years ago she had cancer and had most of her stomach removed. She regained her health again and up until 3 weeks before she recently died April 3rd, she had been attending meetings regularly and maintaining a life of "jw works". Helen had no husband, having been divorced for decades. Her adult children, not JW, were very loving and attentive. Otherwise, she was all alone and didn't drive. One day about 6 weeks prior to her death. she called COBE. Helen was very depressed and crying. She had begun having pain in her abdomen again. Even though he is retired and in the best position to go to Helen along with his elderette wife and comfort Helen, COBE told her she needed to call her doctor and ask him to prescribe antidepressants....The end. No visit, no follow-up phone call. However, COBE and his elderette wife attended Helen's jw infomercial memorial service. Just an example of sickening behavior from so called 'shepards' who think they are appointed by God! Too busy riding in cars with their friends, going for coffee and knocking on empty doors to visit the widows, sick and elderly! -

Suicide - How many do you know within the JWs
by Lady Lee inthw wts likes to play games with their statistics.
one interesting but truly tragic is the number of jwhovah's witnesses who commit suicie.. now i suspect that if a person commits suicide shortly before or after they are disfellowshipped then the elders would say that person wasn't a witness or that they had done something so terrible that they were too guilty to admit it and by their action of committing suicide they pretty much declared they were no longer a jw.. yup fancy talk to make sure any crap didn't fall on them.. so my question.. do you know of cases like this?
if so then can you answer a few more questions.. had this person been dfed or in real danger of being dfed or whatever the equivalent is if they were never baptized?.

I know of 6 people within the last 3 years who have committed suicide. Some were df'ed, faded, one an active JW and one was a relative df'ed for just 3 months. People definitely need to be enlightened / educated about depression, that it is an insidious and sometimes deadly disease. The truth about depression and suicide. Please read and share this article from Washington Post, March 23 2016 :

Banned from the second school!
by purrpurr ini've been told by a jw friend that when her hall recently had a refurb that big changes were made to the second school.. one, a large sign has been placed on the door telling people not to use it and to sit in the main hall itself.. two, that all the chairs which used to face the large windows looking into the main hall are now side on to the window facing the wall instead.. this is because "so many people were sitting out in there!
people were finding all manner of exhuses to sit-in there and the brothers want us to all be together in the main hall!
" she said.. of course i didn't tell her what i really thought of this but seriously?

Thanks purrpurr for this interesting thread. When I attended kh sporadically for five years prior to finally waking up a year ago, I would often sit in one of the "school" rooms when I arrived late, sometimes 10 minutes before meeting was over so I could go out to lunch with my (now conditional) friends. I noticed the last few months before my last entering kh, for memorial, April 3, 2015, the rooms were often empty and darkened. I don't know if attendants were directing people away from those rooms, but there were a lot of empty seats in auditorium.
As for the phone call-in lines, I currently have phone numbers and codes for several kh stored in my phone. Some in different time zones. In the past few years, there have been memorial services (watchtower infomercials) for friends in other congregations, so numbers were given to me by relatives and (now conditional) friends. In the past three years, I have been told they are no longer allowed to give these numbers and codes to anyone. This has to be approved by the elders. So, occasionally when I call in to mentally dissect the cult brainwashing to which my relatives are still subjecting themselves, I press *67 so as not to display my name and phone number on caller ID and lose my 'privilege'. Interestingly, in 2010, while the cobe was conducting wt study he called on his elderette wife and she took the opportunity to counsel the entire congregation, as one does, 😊 when she commented, "The faithful slave has made a loving provision by providing the meeting phone call-in arrangement. SOME brothers and sisters abuse this loving provision because they may be a little tired or just not feel like going to the meeting even though they aren't really sick. So, instead of going to meeting they sometimes call in and listen on phone. That provision is NOT for them! It's a provision for those who cannot attend meetings such as homebound elderly or those with severe illnesses. Some use it anyway, but they are not supposed to do that!" I guess she got the congregation told!!
